Save the Geese group speaks after video of boy throwing bicycle at goose at Mishawaka Riverwalk circulates
MISHAWAKA, Ind.--- We often hear stories of videos of geese attacking people, but this time it's the other way around.
While you may not love the droppings they leave at the park, or the way they get defensive over their nests, Save the Gesse Michiana tells ABC57 there is much to love about these feathered friends.
"I think they are beautiful, just fabulous; I like the fact they mate for life. I think that’s really neat. I like when they fly by and go honk honk… and they were here first. This is their water their park where they hang out, so we owe it to them to hangout here too," said Brenda Thiery who cocreated the Save the Geese group back in 2016.
Now she feels she needs to speak up for the creatures yet again, after seeing a video of a boy aggressively throwing a bicycle at a goose.
The boy's father said the boy is very sorry and learning from this mistake. Brenda believes children need a better understanding of how to treat animals.
"Anytime an animal is put in a situation like that…you know there's no way the animal can fight back… it just can't happen the person is way bigger than them, I really think they should educate the kids better on how to treat animals…," she added.
The Mishawaka Police Department says the male in the video is a minor, so the case is being handled by Juvenile Justice Center.
