UPDATE 2: SBPD reports they've has received more donations than they could ever have imagined, and when officers began packing up donations, they realized they needed more empty boxes to accommodate all the donated supplies.

Police say they need a lot of empty boxes before they can hit the road in a few days to deliver the donations to the hurricane victims.

UPDATE: McKinnies Realty at 1632 E. Day Road in Mishawaka has also offered to serve as a donation drop-off site.

All donations dropped off at McKinnies will be delivered to the main donation site at SBPD at the end of the week.

ORIGINAL: SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Police Department has announced a supply donation drive to help hurricane victims that will be delivered to where they are most needed by South Bend police officers and firefighters when they travel to those locations in the near future.

"The South Bend Police Department and the South Bend Fire Department are teaming up to provide relief to these hard-hit areas, as well as the countless other cities preparing for damage from the incoming Hurricane Milton," SBPD officials said. "From now through this Friday, Oct. 11, we invite our community to donate items that will be loaded onto our trailer and given directly to victims of the storms."

Donations can be dropped off at the South Bend Police Department's front desk from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. anytime this week, up until Friday night.

"These South Bend Police Officers and Firefighters feel compelled to help, as they have family in these areas and understand the devastation the hurricanes have caused... and will cause... across the southeast," SBPD officials said.
