ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- President Trump's heavily backed pick, Dr. Brian Schmutzler has unseated Republican incumbent Linda Rogers in the primary race for Indiana Senate District 11.

Republican Schmutzler defeated Rogers in a primary race that has garnered national attention after trump endorsed Schmutzler and voiced displeasure with Rogers.

Here's what Schmutzler said of his initial reaction to the news:

"Very, very excited. I was just talking to somebody, I've only cried four times in my life, and this is number four. I'm so glad, so honored, so honored the people chose to elect me in this primary and again, like I said before...give all the credit to Jesus."

Here is what incumbent Rogers said shortly after she heard the news:

"It has been truly an honor and a privilege to represent SD 11. I will certainly miss it, I might get a day off now, but it has been a great honor. Congratulations to Dr. Schmutzler, he worked hard and certainly I hope he represents the district well because it's a great, great district."
