School bus involved in accident Monday morning

A New Prairie United Schools bus was involved in an accident Monday morning, according to Superintendent Paul White.

White says around 8:30 a.m., a bus with 27 students headed to Olive Township Elementary was on Early Road and turned north on Timothy Road.

A southbound vehicle on Timothy Road struck the bus.

The school district arranged for transportation for the students and they were taken to school.

Once they got to school, some of the students complained of injuries so EMS was dispatched to the school, according to St. Joseph County Police.

White initially told ABC57 no children were injured.

St. Joseph County Police say 12 of the students reported various injuries. None were reported to be serious.

White says the driver of the vehicle that hit the bus was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

According to Police, the driver of the bus, 58-year-old Diane Molnar of Buchanan turned into the path of a vehicle driving southbound. The driver told police her view of southbound traffic was obstructed by trees.
