Search continues in Constantine for body in St. Joseph River

CONSTANTINE, Mich.-- St. Joseph County Michigan dive teams are still working to search for a man in Constantine. Police say a 65-year-old man was fishing on a boat with his son around 10:30 Saturday night near Oxbow Drive when he fell off of the boat and was swept away by the current.

Officers tell us they started their search shortly after a call came in around 2:30 this morning reporting the man missing.

It was suspended for a short time because of low visibility.

“We don’t plan on stopping today. We’re going to try all means I know we just called in a state police helicopter to assist, the visibility might be better from the air at this point. We are having problems with visibility with the murkiness of the water however I think we’ll work through it and continue our group search,” St. Joseph County Undersheriff Mark Lillywhite said Sunday.

Officers from the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office, Constantine Police and Fire and Michigan State Police responded to the call. Police say they are not releasing the name of that man tonight as they are still working to notify family members.
