Section Main, Wayne streets closed in downtown starting April 3

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Sections of Main and Wayne streets will be closed in downtown South Bend starting Monday for parking garage assessments, according to the City of South Bend.

Beginning at 10 a.m., Main Street will be closed from Jefferson Boulevard to Wayne Street.

At this time, Wayne Street will also be closed from Main to Michigan streets.

The closures are a result of an investigation by the city which found that anchors connecting the concrete façade elements to the parking garage building had deteriorated.

The deterioration leads to the possibility of debris falling onto public spaces.

These closures will be in place until further notice.

Sidewalks adjacent to the garage are also closed.

During this time, northbound traffic on Main will detour west on Wayne, north on Lafayette Boulevard then east on Jefferson.

Southbound traffic will detour east on Jefferson, south on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard then west on Western Avenue.
