Semi crashes into truck, building off Indiana Toll Road

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. –A semi struck an abandoned vehicle, drove off the Indiana Toll Road and crashed into a building near the 90 mile marker Monday morning, according to Indiana State Police.

ISP received a call about the crash around 7:15 a.m. Monday.

Police say Kazmierez Kisiel, 66, of Westfield, Massachusetts, was traveling eastbound on the toll road near the 90 mile marker when his semi left the roadway for an unknown reason.

The semi hit an abandoned Chevrolet truck that was on the entry ramp to the closed service plaza.

The semi then continued off the road, into the ditch, through a fence, into a building operated by Altech Engineering, then hit a forklift before finally coming to a stop, police said.

Kisiel was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for minor injuries.

No workers in the building were injured.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing but alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
