Semi driver injured in crash on US 30

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- A semi driver was injured when he failed to stop for traffic and rear ended another semi that rear ended a third semi, according to the La Porte County Sheriff's Office.

Around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, deputies were called to US 30 and SR 39 to investigate a crash involving three semis.

Deputies said two semis were in the driving lane of US 30, stopped at a stoplight, when a semi driver from Illinois failed to stop for the stopped traffic and rear ended a semi driven by a man from Pennsylvania.

The second semi then rear ended a third semi.

The driver who allegedly caused the crash was injured and had to be extricated from his semi.

Deputies said he suffered an upper body injury and was flown to the hospital for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.
