Semi truck crash on the Toll Road creates a mess

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - One lane westbound on the toll road near mile marker 72 was closed for nearly four hours after a semi truck lost control and over-turned on the entrance ramp.

The crash happened after 2 p.m. Wednesday.

The tractor trailer was heading from the bypass on to the westbound lanes of the Toll Road when the trailer tipped over.

"It just seems the truck was going too fast on the ramp and lost control causing it to roll over, "Trooper Ted Bohner said.

The truck was carrying 40,000 pounds of paper.

Troopers said either the driver was going too fast, or the paper shifted causing the rig to over-turn.

"The driver was taken to Memorial Hospital for a complaint to pain to his head. It looks like his injuries are minor at this point," Bohner said.

The driver is expected to be okay, it's likely he won't even have to spend the night at the hospital.

There is a lesson here that all drivers can learn from, "Drive slow on the ramps, if you go too fast--this is what can happen."
