ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - A settlement has been reached between St. Joseph County and Portage Manor residents, according to court documents. The settlement comes roughly a month after plaintiffs representing residents filed a class action lawsuit against the county, including the county council and board of commissioners.
Full details of the settlement have not yet been released but documents confirm residents still have to be moved out by July 31.
The lawsuit claims the county and county leaders violate a number of residents' rights by closing Portage Manor and requiring residents to move to “unknown facilities in unknown locations."
This is a developing story.
