Several Berrien County deputies presented with awards at Commission meeting

BERRIEN COUNTY, Ind. -- Thursday morning, several members of the Berrien County Road Patrol gathered to be presented with awards at the Berrien County Commission Meeting.

Three deputies received commendations for their life-saving work.

Deputy Cameron Neubecker received a commendation for his actions on Nov. 7 when he rescued a subject from the Paw Paw River during a mental health episode.

Deputy Sam Whittaker received a commendation for his quick response to a bicycle crash on Aug. 25 that left a woman with several broken bones in New Buffalo Township.

Deputy Sabrian LaRatta, who was unable to attend, received a commendation for her actions as a member of the Berrien County Dive Team when she dove to recover a drowned individual on May 28 during very challenging diving conditions.

Sheriff Heit presented a retirement badge to Reserve Deputy Ken Jewell for 30 years of service to the Sheriff's Office.
