Sheriff: Dirt bike, motorcycle drivers arrested following police pursuit

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich.—According to the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department, two men were arrested on July 17 after a police pursuit ended in a search warrant served.

On July 17, deputies were sent to the area of White School Road near Fawn River Road for reports of two motorcycles racing in the area.

Deputies located a dirt bike and a high-speed motorcycle in the area.

The dirt bike was found to be speeding in a residential area, so deputies attempted a traffic stop but both the dirt bike and motorcycle left the area at high speeds.

Deputies pursued the two vehicles and found both parked in a garage near Hazel Street and U.S. 12.

Witnesses alerted deputies to the suspects’ location and a search warrant was then executed in the 25000 block of U.S. 12.

The two suspects were arrested and taken to the St. Joseph County Jail for fleeing and eluding police.

The driver of the dirt bike, a 20-year-old male from Sturgis, was also ticketed for speeding.

The driver of the motorcycle, an 18-year-old male also from Sturgis, was also charged with operating without a cycle endorsement.

The case remains under investigation and anyone with information should contact Deputy Mark Mellinger at (269) 467-9045 ext. 327.
