Sheriff: Driver said he fell asleep at the wheel, crashed into buggy

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind.—Two people were injured after a driver said he fell asleep behind the wheel and crashed into an Amish buggy, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.

A car was driving north on CR 33, south of CR 16 on Sunday evening around 6:40 p.m. when the driver said he fell asleep at the wheel and rear ended a buggy, the sheriff’s office said.

The buggy was heavily damaged in the crash, according to police.

The car's driver, a 26-year-old Goshen man, did not report any injuries.

The driver and passenger in the buggy were both injured and taken to the hospital.

Police are still investigating the crash.
