Shirley Mundia's memorial services announced

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Local funeral arrangements are now set for 6-year-old Shirley Mundia. The little girl was stabbed to death by her father, 33-year-old Edward Mwaura just one week ago today at the Irish Hills Apartment complex.

Police say a domestic dispute between Shirley's parents turned deadly at the apartment where  Shirley and her mother were living when Mwaura showed up around 5 a.m. last Sunday. Police say he stabbed 32-year-old Lucy Mundia several times and then turned the knife on his own daughter.

Police busted down the apartment door and saw Mwaura stabbing Shirley. In an effort to stop the stabbing, police shot and killed him. Shirley was rushed to a local hospital where she died from her injuries.

Steve, the Mundia family spokesman says the family is still trying to come up with money to pay for Shirley's funeral services.

Shirley's family and friends will gather to remember the little girl on Saturday at Alford's Mortuary on Napier Street in South Bend, from 1 to 3 in the afternoon.

Then immediately following a memorial church service will be held at the Pentecostal Cathedral Cogic right down the road at 1025 W. Western Avenue in South Bend.

The community is invited to both celebrations.
