NOW: Mass shooting in Benton Harbor kills one and injures six

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety reported that officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Pipestone Street at approximately 2 a.m. on Monday for a shooting that killed one person and injured six other people.

Officials say that officers observed a large number of people at Ajay’s Lounge and the A & D Liquor store upon arriving to the scene of the shooting.

Upon an initial investigation, officers reported that shell casings found at the scene of the shooting were comprised of various calibers.

All victims were transported from the scene to a hospital for treatment of their gunshot wounds, officials say.

Officials say that one victim, 19-year-old Marlon Bowman, was pronounced deceased after suffering multiple gunshot wounds to the chest.

Witnesses tell ABC57 that a fight broke out before the shooting due to an argument concerning a ticketed event scheduled for Ajay’s Lounge.

Event goers say they paid $60 to see a Detroit-based rapper, Babyface Ray, perform at the venue. However, witnesses shared that the rapper only made an appearance and did not perform.

Witnesses tell ABC57 that the upset crowd began fighting before a shooting took place at the scene.

The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety is offering a $2,000 award for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect or suspects involved in this shooting. Calls can be made to 269-384-9715 to speak with Sgt. Tyler Roots.
