Shooting range at Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife Area reopens with safety upgrades

MEDARYVILLE, Ind. -- The Indiana Department of Natural Resources announced they have reopened the shooting range at the Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife Area following several safety upgrades.
DNR officials say the upgrades include shooting positions being increased from 33 to 39, the range’s footprint being decreased to allow for more efficient monitoring by range safety officers, electricity being added to all shooting locations to allow for ceasefire lighting to be installed, and larger backstops with ricochet catchers added to shooting lanes as another safety measure.
The rifle and pistol stations now under a roof and the substrate beneath shooting benches down to each target holder has been upgraded from loose gravel to concrete to improve access and provide easier cleanup and recycling of spent casings, officials said.
The DNR adds that restroom facilities have been upgraded to vault toilets.
This renovation was funded through the federal Wildlife Restoration Grant program funding.
The range is open for rifle, pistol, and shotgun shooting Wednesdays-Sundays from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
