Short chase ends in crash, four injured

ELKHART, Ind. – A chase that started in Edwardsburg resulted in a crash in Elkhart, leaving four people injured Thursday evening.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department says 27-year-old Manuel Campos was driving a 2010 Nissan when he allegedly initiated a pursuit with Edwardsburg Police around 7:20 p.m.

During the chase, Campos crossed over the state line into Indiana, traveling southbound on County Road 7 at a high rate of speed.

According to deputies, Campos drove his vehicle off the roadway and crashed into trees.

Campos was not wearing his seatbelt and suffered injuries to his head, chest, and right ankle.

There were four passengers in his vehicle. Three of them were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

No citations or arrests have been made at this time.
