Silver Hawks salute veterans at Military Appreciation Night

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Silver Hawks took time to say thank you to members of the U.S. military.

It was Military Appreciation Night at the Cove. Active duty, reserved and retired veterans were welcomed out for a night at the ballpark

"It’s awesome. We appreciate the organization supporting us,” said Army vet Dave Martin. “We are trying to bridge the gap between the Vietnam veterans and the kids coming home today and help educate them, that means a lot to us."

The Silver Hawks hosted the Fort Wayne Tin Caps Thursday and lost 14-8. They continue the series Friday night at home.

The first pitch is at 7:35.

The Cove will also be opening a brand new splash pad and playground. The splash pad has 16 shooting fountains and LED lighting.

And the playground has a slide, jungle gym, and everything to keep the kids busy.
