Silver Hawks up to bat against breast cancer

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Silver Hawks hosted a special weekend to raise awareness for breast cancer.

They gave away these pink jerseys.

The first 500 women ages 18 and older got a pink replica jersey courtesy of us at ABC 57 and B-100.

The players also wore pink and it seemed to be a good thing because they won today!
But it didn't seem to help because the silver hawks fell to Lansing.. _____

"There's been so many changes to the Cove in the last  year or so that we thought we'd come see what's brand new. The new team store's finally open, the splash pad's finally open, and the Budweiser bullpen picnic garden is now open and in full swing now," said fan, Larry Szymanski.

And what good timing the Silver Hawks had because new research is out this morning on a breast cancer breakthrough for treating the disease.

There is a new drug that is said to be more effective and with far less side effects.

It's a less toxic form of chemotherapy that is much more powerful and much less damaging.

It is still in clinical trials right now but could be available next year.
