Single-engine plane crash near Rockford, Illinois kills pilot

MONROE TOWNSHIP, Ill. -- A pilot is dead after crashing his single-engine plane into a field.
The crash happened near the Chicago-Rockford Airport.
The pilot was flying according to visual flight rules, which means he was not necessarily in contact with the tower.
The pilot was the only occupant of the plane.
