Single-vehicle crash into utility pole sends juvenile to hospital

STARKE COUNTY, Ind. -- Starke County Sheriff's deputies responded to a crash with injuries on Sunday at approximately 2:42 p.m. on US 30 near Grovertown.  

The investigation indicated a 43-year-old female was traveling eastbound on US 30 when her vehicle struck several potholes, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle then traveled off the east side of the roadway, rolled over, and struck a NIPSCO utility pole. 

The juvenile passenger in the vehicle was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for treatment of injuries.

US 30 was temporarily shut down to allow for a safe helicopter landing.

The Hamlet Fire Department, Koontz Lake Fire Department, Washington Township Fire Department, Starke County EMS, and Lutheran Air assisted at the scene. 

The crash remains under investigation.
