Six from Niles join crew of Michigan electrical workers headed to Orlando this week
NILES, Mich. -- The City of Niles announced on Wednesday that local electric crews were dispatched Orlando, Fla on Monday to begin preparing to restore power after incoming Hurrican Milton hits the state.
"This coordinated effort between the Florida Municipal Electric Association, Michigan Municipal Electric Association (MMEA) and the American Public Power Association (APPA) is a testament to local power communities’ commitment to helping others in times of need," city officials said.
"Our six employees and 30 others from municipal electric providers in Michigan are prepared to assist wherever needed, and along with our brethren return power to those areas impacted by this massive event."
Although many responders are answering a call to help, municipalities dispatched are reimbursed by the agency that makes the request for assistance
