Six people hospitalized after driver fails to yield in Elkhart County

ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office responded to a crash at the intersection of S.R. 15 and C.R. 42 around 11:43 a.m. Friday morning that sent six people to two area hospitals.

Authorities say a 2013 Honda Civic, driven by 77-year-old Paul Burns of Brownsburg, was headed west on C.R. 42 and a 2016 Chevy Silverado was going north on S.R. 15 when the Civic stopped at stop sign at the 'T' intersection of S.R. 15.

Burns then turned south on S.R. 15, failing to yield to the right of way to Yepez.

The driver of the Chevy, 60-year-old Armando Garcia Yepez of Goshen, then crashed into the Civic.

The Honda was carrying three passengers who, along with Burns, were taken to the local hospitals. One of the passengers was 15 years old and the other two were 22 and 82.

The Chevy was carrying a 57-year-old passenger who complained of hip pain. Both Garcia Yepez and his passenger were taken to Elkhart General for complaints of pain.

Burns was cited with failure to yield the right of way.
