There isn't always video of every tornado, so meteorologists look forensically at debris to determine if there was a tornado, and how strong it could have been.
A storm with straight line wind, the debris should roughly in the same direction, where a tornado the damage may be twisted and trees or crops may lay in a more circular pattern
The Fujita Scale, famously derived by Dr. Ted Fujita is based of what damage happens at certain wind speeds.
In this case there was one tornado confirmed for the entire area with last night's storm and it was only on the ground for a mile. Most of the damage was caused by straight line wind.
