Smoke detector saves family's life

DOWAGIAC, Mich. -- A smoke detector is credited with saving a family's life after an early morning house fire.
The house caught fire around 1 a.m. at the home on West Division Street.
It took six fire crews to tackle the flames.
Investigators believe the fire sparked in the kitchen.
Firefighters said they're not sure if the house is a total loss, but it was badly damaged.
