Sneak peek at Four Winds Dowagiac
DOWAGIAC, Mich. -- A new casino is moving forward with plans to open in Michiana. It promises dozens of jobs and an economic shot in the arm for Dowagiac when it opens this spring. ABC57 got a sneak peek at the Four Winds Dowagiac on M51.
The new site is just a couple minutes south of the city limits of Dowagiac right here of M-51 but for the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians they say it feels more like coming home.
"A lot of people don't understand or recognize it's not like moved into this area. We have been here. This is the home base so it only makes sense to build here,” said Matthew Wesaw, Chairman of Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians.
This is the Pokagon Band's third casino. It will be smaller and have a more intimate feeling.
Dowagiac has 12,000 square feet of gaming space.
"Hartford is a small New Buffalo, this is a small Hartford, so we're about a tenth of the size of New Buffalo with 300 machines,” said Matt Harkness, General Manager Four Winds Casinos.
They plan to hire more than 100 employees. They’re still looking for everything from security officers to bartenders.
