ARGOS, Ind. -- Thursday afternoon, INDOT held an open house to discuss the proposed six-mile US-31 corridor project through Marshall and Fulton counties, featuring nine intersections.
The preferred alternative includes interchanges at S.R. 10 and S.R. 110 at US-31, overpass bridges at C.R. 700 and 19th Road, and the closure of five intersections.
Safety measures at the S.R. 10 and US-31 intersection would include the introduction of a lowered speed limit and pavement markings.
The project is estimated to cost $30-40 million per interchange and faces challenges due to proximity and accessibility. Alternative designs, such as reduced conflict intersections, are still under consideration.
"So, we've been talking about this area of us, 31 for a long time. We've proposed different projects over time." Said PR Director for INDOT Northwest, Cassandra Bajek." Some of those have been shot down by the public. We've gotten public feedback that they reduce conflict. Intersections were not what they would prefer. And so, we move forward with interchange as a potential idea. It's been a long time in the works, you know, it's a large project. It requires a lot of funding, and so we've been slowly moving forward to make that a reality for especially State Road 10.
A public hearing to discuss finalized costs and designs is planned for 2027.
