South Bend awards first Arts Award for Black History Month

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- To celebrate Black History Month, the City of South Bend has awarded nine local African American leaders with Black History Month Awards, including the inaugural Arts Award.

ABC57's Summer Horan and Dante Stanton spoke with two recipients, Ja'Van Smith and the Arts Award-winning Tarrah "Micki" Miller, to discuss their work and inspirations.

South Bend Mayor James Mueller will host the 11th Annual Black History Month Awards Ceremony and Reception for them and the seven other honorees at the Century Center’s Convention Hall at 120 S Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard at 6 p.m. Thursday.
