South Bend Brew Werks reopens in new location

SOUTH BEND, Ind. --- Local brewery South Bend Brew Werks opened their new location at the Hibberd building on Main Street Wednesday afternoon. The reopening happening just months after owner Steve Lowe says he was evicted from their previous location inside the historical State Theater building in Downtown South Bend.

“A fresh start you know, exactly that. Moving on from the old location. We left the bad stuff over at the old spot and we brought everything that was worth saving and remembering over here to the new spot," said Lowe.

The local brewery now open for business in their new home celebrated opening day brewing 16 staple taps from IPAs to cream ales.

Longtime customers were excited to see the family owned business open once again and were ready to embrace the new space with open arms.

“The other had some character, but this one has more life so I like it," said Russell Adams.

For others it wasn’t just the new space bringing smiles, but more the return of community getting to see people after a year of isolation due to the pandemic.

“Some folks I would sometimes only see here and so as I walk in it’s immediate oh hey how are you or I haven’t seen you in a while or I haven’t hugged you in a while it’s just it’s great this location is wonderful," said Juan Constantino.

Despite the new location Lowe says it’s still the same Brew Werks as before, just with more space to do the thing he loves most, brew beer.

“We’ll remember those times for what they were, but we’re ready to start making new memories over here," said Lowe.

The brewery will be open Wednesday & Thursday 4-10 p.m., Friday & Saturday12-11 p.m., and Sunday from 12-8 p.m.
