SOUTH BEND, Ind.--- The South Bend Common Council voted 8-1 Monday Night to approve a new community policing review board. The board would have oversight over allegations of officer misconduct.
" It took a long time," said 2nd District Council Member Henry Davis Jr. "It’s been six years and we’re just grateful for all the community support we’ve received. "
The board will be made up of South Bend residents with the goal of holding officers accountable. The decision comes more than a year after the shooting of Eric Logan by a former South Bend Police officer.
"We’ve given our residents a platform to speak, more than they’ve had before," said Davis. "We’re moving at a new normal in South Bend where residents are more involved in the decision making process where they weren’t before."
