Elkhart structure fire in the 25000 block of County Road 36
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- An impromptu protest popped up on the steps of St. Joseph County Courthouse Wednesday evening with around 50 locals gathering with posters.
Individual freedoms is what the group said they’re fighting for, with posters for issues across the board.
One sign read “No human being is illegal on stolen land,” while another said, “Her body, her choice,” among many other messages.
The gathering came the courthouse steps after a community member, Juarez, made some social media posts about the current political climate, such as the executive orders signed by President Trump over the last week, empowering the U.S. office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
People with opinions on all sides chimed into the conversation, prompting some individuals to come together for the protest.
“I know a lot of people are scared right now because of the current bills that are being passed, but I just want people to know that we’re not scared. We’re here for those people that don’t have a voice,” said Juarez.
