South Bend Cubs owner honored at Mayors' Luncheon for Scouting

South Bend Cubs owner Andrew Berlin was honored Monday at the 10th annual Mayors' Luncheon for Scouting.

The luncheon is a fundraising event for the LaSalle Council Boy Scouts of America.

Berlin was the guest speaker at the event and received the 2016 Soaring Eagle Award.

The award is given to someone who supports the mission of Scouting and youth in the community and has demonstrated extraordinary leadership and community service.

The event was hosted by mayors from all over Michiana including Mishawaka, South Bend, Elkhart, Goshen, Nappanee and Plymouth.

Beacon Health System received the 2016 Good Turn Award as an organization that has supported the values of Scouting and provided outstanding community service.

The George Meany Award was given to Rick Whiteman, a union member and local Business Agent of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union No. 172, who has made significant contributions to Scouting.
