South Bend house fire claims family dog

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — A South Bend family's home caught fire and their dog was unable to escape and died.

Fire crews arrived just after 5 p.m. at a home on South Albert Street. Smoke was pouring out of the windows. 

No one was home at the time of the fire. 

Rescuers tried to give the dog CPR but it did not survive.

Fire investigators are still trying to figure out how the fire started.
