South Bend introduces tree giveaway initiative

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The South Bend Venues Parks & Arts Forestry Department and the City of South Bend announced today that they’re giving away free native Indiana trees to South Bend residents as part of a new initiative.

The Community Canopy Tree Program is an initiative focused on making it easier for the community to give back to the environment.

Beginning today, South Bend residents can request the planting of a native tree in their lawn during the Spring (March-May) and Fall (October-December) seasons.

Residents interested in this opportunity can fill out an application here.

Property owners must meet with the VPA Forester to confirm location and tree selection that will benefit their neighborhood the most.

Applications are open all year until all 140 trees are claimed.
