South Bend man arrested after threatening, fighting officers

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A probable cause affidavit from the St. Joseph Superior Court states Enrique Perez has been charged with Intimidation, a Level 6 Felony, Resisting Law Enforcement, Level 6 Felony, Resisting Law Enforcement, a Misdemeanor, and Public Intoxication, a Misdemeanor.
On July 25, after responding to a possible trespass on Olive Street, South Bend Police Department officers were approached by Perez. He carried a can of beer in his hand and claimed to live at the house the officers had been dispatched to.
The officers then spoke to the resident of the home, who stated that Perez did not live there and was asked to leave due to his erratic, drunken behavior. When officers tried to speak with Perez, he became angry and started to shout.
When the officers withdrew, Perez followed, beginning to "flail" and yell "I'll shoot [you], I got a whole gun" at the officers.
At this time, officers moved to restrain Perez, one grabbing his arm while Perez attempted to pull away. After being ordered to remain still, Perez tore his arm free and wrestled with the officers, grabbing one's thigh and belt to prevent her from handcuffing him.
With the efforts of three officers, Perez was handcuffed. In the struggle, one officer's right elbow was cut, and his right shoulder was injured.
After being restrained, Perez continued to grab and kick at the officers while being carried to a police car. On the way to the St. Joseph County Jail, Perez threatened an officer, saying he was "going to get out", "going to find your … car", and that she was "going to die".
Perez is due in court Aug. 19.
