South Bend man charged in car theft

MISHAWAKA, Ind. - Officials say they've arrested 37-year-old South Bend resident, Julio Enrique Melendez, on charges related to a carjacking that left one woman suffering a gunshot to the hand.
Melendez is charged with motor vehicle theft and operating while intoxicated, according to officials.
Mishawaka police say the injured woman pulled a gun on Melendez when he jumped in her car outside the Phoenix Bar and Grill Tuesday night.
