South Bend man sentenced to life in prison for 2025 homicide

Berrien County Jail BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- A South Bend man will spend the rest of his life in prison for the murder of a Berrien County woman.
Rene Lopez Alvarado was previously convicted of First-Degree Homicide in the death of 29-year-old Courtney Hershberger. Her body was found at the Franklin Woods mobile home park in Berrien County on July 21, 2025.
Alvarado was sentenced to life without parole for the Homicide charge. He was additionally found guilty of Firearm Enhancement.
