South Bend Mayor pitches in to stop illegal dumping

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- On Monday, Mayor Pete Buttigieg went to work with one goal in mind: Clean up the city!

He put on his work clothes and gloves to put a stop to illegal dumping.

The program attacks illegal dumping from two different directions.

Code Enforcement imposes the rules, then the Street Department picks up the existing mess.

The mayor said he is happy to show his appreciation.

"Well, the guys told me not to quit my day job, but hopefully this shows them that I appreciate the work they do. I have to say it's kinda nice and a stress relieving quality to be able to just pick up the garbage and put it away like that, maybe sometime I'll come out here and do it again one more time," said Mayor Buttigieg.

The mayor said things are getting picked up more quickly, thanks to the warmer weather!
