South Bend offering free Christmas tree disposal

SOUTH BEND, Ind.—The City of South Bend said Monday that it will offer Christmas tree disposal for community members who live within city limits.

Christmas tree collection will take place from Thursday, January 2 to Thursday, January 30 on the same day as trash pickup.

The city released a few notes about Christmas tree disposal:

  • Trees must be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on the day of pickup
  • Trees cannot be placed in the street or alley
  • Cars should not be parked on top of or in front of the tree
  • Lights, ornaments, plastic coverings/ wraps and metals like nails and tree stands, must be removed from trees before pick up

Artificial trees and trees containing any metal, glass or wire will not be collected.

Free tree pickup includes the removal of one tree per household. Additional Christmas trees can be removed at a rate of $10 per tree.

To schedule a pickup, residents can submit an online request on the city's website or by calling 311.
