South Bend Police Department holds auction

SOUTH BEND, Ind.-- People from all over Michiana got their chance to buy items recovered by the South Bend Police Department this morning.

The department held an auction in an effort to raise money for the city and clear out untraceable items.

Several hundred people showed up and bought everything from bicycles to copy machines.

"If you take a look at a building like this, we only have so much room. And we have to do this auction each, and every year to be able to make sure we clear out the property rooms. The last thing you want is to keep building, after building, after building," said Horvath, Division Cheif.

This year's auction was a little more popular than in year's past.

Police say the growing popularity of auction shows on TV has helped generate curiousity.
