South Bend Police Department's Armadillo caught on fire
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The South Bend Police Department Nuisance Abatement Vehicle, also known as the Armadillo, was damaged by fire early Sunday morning.
The Armadillo had been placed in the area of Elwood and Brookfield where numerous instances of shots fired have occurred in the past.
Officers responded to the scene and found the front of the vehicle engulfed in flames.
South Bend Fire Department was notified and they were able to extinguish the flames.
At this time, it is unknown how the fire was started. The Armadillo is equipped with a recording system that police will be reviewing to help determine the cause.
This is an ongoing investigation.
