SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Friday was a day of remembrance for South Bend police.
Dozens gathered in front of the Police Department to honor their fallen brothers.
Squad cars lined the street with lights flashing while the Honor Guard fired a 21-gun salute.
Emotions ran high as names were read.
Families who lost their loved ones also placed flowers at the memorial.
"Big boys do cry," said Interim Police Chief Chuck Hurley. "It is okay to shed a tear on this day or any other day when we remember these special people who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the safety of our community."
Relatives of fallen officers also received three memorial scholarships.
