South Bend Police investigating armed robberies at two businesses

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend Police are investigating two armed robberies that happened Wednesday evening.

The first armed robbery happened in the 1600 block of N. Portage around 7:40 p.m.

Witnesses said the suspect walked up to the counter, displayed a gun and demanded money from the register. The suspect grabbed the cash and ran from the business.

The suspect was described as a black male wearing all black and a mask.

The second armed robbery happened in the 2900 block of McKinley around 8:15 p.m.

Witnesses said the suspect entered the store, showed a gun and asked for cash.

The suspect went to the counter and began grabbing cash drawers, change and tobacco products, police said.

The suspect then fled the store and is believed to have left in a vehicle.

The second suspect is described as a black male wearing a black hoodie with a white t-shirt, black pants and white shoes.

Police said at this time it does not appear the two robberies were related.
