UPDATE: Suspect arrested regarding robbery at Notre Dame Federal Credit Union

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- UPDATE: The South Bend Police Department announced a suspect has been taken into custody regarding the robbery at Notre Dame Federal Credit Union on Portage Avenue, which occurred on Wednesday, July 3.

The report states officers and detectives collected initial statements and evidence to develop a suspect description when they arrived on scene that day.

Not long after the reported robbery, authorities said they were able to locate the suspect, 38-year-old David Hatmaker, outside a business near the credit union.

Authorities say through further investigation, they learned Hatmaker was also the suspect in a vehicle theft at a South Bend car dealership earlier that day.

Police say Hatmaker was near the stolen vehicle when he was taken into custody.

Officers found a large amount of cash, suspected methamphetamine, and a syringe in Hatmaker’s possession, according to the report

On Friday, July 5, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office charged Hatmaker with Robbery, Auto Theft, Possession of Meth, and Unlawful Possession of a Syringe.

Hatmaker is currently being held at the St. Joseph County Jail.

ORIGINAL STORY: South Bend Police are investigating a robbery that occurred at the Notre Dame Federal Credit Union on the 3400 block of Portage Avenue.

Police responded to the report of a robbery around 4 p.m.

One individual has been detained in connection with the investigation.

No injuries have been reported and investigation remains active.
