South Bend Police take cover after shots fired

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend Police had to take cover Thursday night while investigating reports of shots fired.

Just before 11 p.m., police arrived to the 100 block of N. Studebaker to investigate reports of shots fired, but were unable to find a scene.

While preparing to leave the area, they heard 3 gunshots and took cover because of how close the shots sounded.

Dispatch told officers on scene the shots came from the 1400 block of W. Linden.

Officers searched the area but didn't find anything.

As officers headed back to their vehicles, three more shots were fired. Officers again took cover because of how close the shots sounded.

Officers believed they were being shot at and relayed that information to dispatch. Additional units, the Indiana State Police and St. Joseph County Police K9s also responded to the scene.

The area was searched, but again, nothing was found.
