South Bend’s Black Expo celebrates Juneteenth

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The South Bend Chapter of the Indiana Black Expo sponsored a Juneteenth celebration on Saturday.

Juneteenth is June 19th and it was developed to celebrate the end of Slavery in the United States and African-American culture.

"We as African-American Catholics are a part of the African-American Community, and we wanted to help celebrate this day that marks the ending of Slavery. So we're giving out calendars, as you can see it's got beautiful artwork and they tell both African-American history and Catholic history." Cheryl Ashe, a member of the Black Catholic Advisory board, said.

Saturday’s celebration included several performances and vendors from the community.
