South Bend’s ‘Mayor Pete’ visiting Elkhart to celebrate USDOT grant

ELKHART, Ind. - Former South Bend Mayor and current U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg will be in Elkhart on Wednesday to celebrate a grant the city is receiving to help with traffic delays from railroad crossings in the area.

The stop is one of many Secretary Buttigieg will make in Indiana to highlight how the Biden-Harris Administration is creating good-paying jobs across the Hoosier state and the United States.

Secretary Buttigieg will join Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson and other community members to celebrate that $2.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation, which is going toward a railroad crossing elimination project in the area.

The project is expected to help reduce traffic delays for residents and a local high school.
