Ninety-degree highs for the Fourth of July
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Students from around the South Bend Community School Corporation faced off against one another on Friday in the 18th Annual "Battle of the Books" competition.
Throughout the past school year, participating students were assigned 20 book titles to read in preparation for the trivia-styled competition to test their reading and comprehension skills.
20 teams participated and answered 100 questions about the books over the course of five rounds.
“It makes kids very excited about reading, and talking to each other, and collaborating. They have a great time learning and working on comprehension and a deeper understanding of what they read,” one team’s coach said.
Teams were coached by their school’s librarians and teachers for the competition.
