SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Shore Line has sent out a request for proposals to move the current South Bend train station from the east side of the airport to the west side, to shave off about 15 minutes of travel time.
South Shore Line hopes that this proposal, coupled with the current double track project already underway, would make a commute from South Bend to Chicago 90 minutes.
The president of the South Shore Line expects to receive pitches from engineers in September and have a plan in place by November.
There has been no word on how much the project would cost, but the South Shore Line President says the work would not interfere with a potential freight line at the airport or adding a stop in downtown South Bend.
