South Shore Line will host workshops ahead of expansion project

South Shore Line commuters can expect a big change coming soon to the railways. But before starting a new project, they want to hear from you.

The project is called the Double Track Northwest Indiana Project.  Trains will run more frequently for commuters, getting them to their destinations at a faster pace.

The railway runs from Northwest Indiana to Chicago. Officials believe this will boost the economy from Hammond to South Bend because travel times will improve, which will attract more people to the South Shore Line.

They will also improve five station platforms and increase safety by separating tracks from the tracks.

There will be several opportunities for the public to learn more and provide insight on how the improvements will affect their communities.

Michiana commuters can attend one of their public workshop sessions on October 6th from 6-7:30 P.M. at Michigan City Hall in Michigan City. More information can be found at http://www.mysouthshoreline.com/news.
